The sacred circuit of the Garhwal Himalaya

Chaar Dham Yatra

A spiritual journey through Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath.

Introduction

The Chaar Dham Yatra is one of India's most revered pilgrimages, taking devotees through four Himalayan shrines set among glaciers, river sources, and high mountain valleys. We help you plan the route, pace, and stays so you can focus on the journey itself.

The Four Dhams

01

Yamunotri

Source of the Yamuna river and the first shrine on the traditional circuit. Reached by a trek from Janki Chatti, with the hot springs of Surya Kund near the temple.

02

Gangotri

The temple of Goddess Ganga on the banks of the Bhagirathi, surrounded by deodar forests. Gaumukh glacier, the river's source, lies further upstream.

03

Kedarnath

One of the twelve Jyotirlingas, set at the head of the Mandakini valley against the Kedarnath peaks. Reached on foot, by pony, or by helicopter where available.

04

Badrinath

Dedicated to Lord Vishnu and nestled between the Nar and Narayan ranges along the Alaknanda river, with the village of Mana close by.

Pilgrimage routes, shrine opening dates, road conditions, and registration requirements are subject to official updates by the Uttarakhand government and temple authorities. Please verify before travel.
